Where is my website served from?

websrvr does most of the work behind the scenes, in fact, you never have to log in to websrvr after the first sign up.

How to create a site?

  1. When you successfully finish the signup a folder called Apps/websrvr will be created in your Dropbox folder.
  2. For every folder you create in this websrvr folder a new site will be created and published.

How to delete a site?

You can delete a site just by deleting the site folder from your websrvr folder or by logging in to websrvr and clicking on the delte button.

How to wire up my domain?

If you want to host a website called www.example.com

  1. Create a folder called foobar in your websrvr folder and copy your site's html and resources to this folder
  2. Make the www CNAME record in your DNS server point to foobar.websrvr.in. That's it, now when you browse to www.example.com the resources from the foobar folder will be served.

Where is my website served from?

During our beta testing period your website will be served from our online servers(which are very fast :) ). However, once we are out of private beta, you will have the option of hosting it on cloudfront.

Come on, How does it really work?

  1. Once you signup on websrvr, a folder called apps/websrvr will be created inside your dropbox folder.
  2. Now, whenever you create/edit/delete a file/folder (inside the apps/websrvr folder) we get notified by dropbox.
  3. As soon as we know something has changed, we get the latest files (only the changed files) and push them to our servers.

What kind of sites is websrvr suitable for?

websrvr builds static sites, so it is not suitable for any site which has a lot of dynamic content. The following are a few good use cases:

  1. A blog powered by http://jekyllrb.com/ and http://disqus.com
  2. A simple marketing site.
  3. A simple documentation site.
  4. To host your js/css/image files.
  5. To showcase your designs.
  6. For designers to show their ongoing work to customers.
  7. Any kind of static site really.

If you want to host a website called www.example.com
